Shyam’s Story #findyourinnerwarrior
Believe the impossible
Shyam aka SJ magician went to a wedding when he was 10 years old that changed his entire life. Like any other wedding there was great food, family members catching up and chatting but this one had a magician for their entertainment. Shyam watched as the magician did card tricks that mesmerised the audience and not only entertained them but also made them wonder how did he do that. Since then Shyam decided he wanted to learn the art of being a magician.
When he was younger he bought magic tricks and for every birthday or occasion he’d ask his family and friends to buy him more. He loved practicing and perfecting the art whether it was a card trick where you’d find your card in your pocket somehow or more complicated tricks he’d spend every spare minute he had trying to add new layers to his tricks.
He always said to his parents that he was going to become a full time magician but they always brushed it off and “ok ok if you say so”. What they didn’t realise is that he was being serious so when it came to deciding if he wanted to go to university he said it wasn’t the right path for him and instead started to take a career in magic seriously. Shyam applied to be part of the magic circle which is an elite network of magicians who share advice and inside tips. However to be part of this illustrious group is not easy especially as a young magician. Firstly you have to be invited in by one of the magicians already part of the circle but luckily Shyam had met a fellow magician that was willing to recommend him. Then you have to take a test so Shyam studied hard for it and passed. The final stage is performing a new magic trick in front of the entire magic circle which can be pretty daunting at the age of 18 but Shyam is a born performer and took this in his stride. He blew them away with his trick and got accepted.
He had his first gig as young as 14 and ever since has also been performing at weddings, corporate events, bars and lounges. However most recently Shyam embarked on his own show in collaboration with the magic circle called Believe the Impossible. He wrote his own script, planned his own tricks and dealt with the whole production including sound, lighting and costume. As you can imagine this is a big feat but it was worth it for 2 almost SOLD OUT shows, not bad for his first solo performance! Shyam has big plans for the future and he not only wants to tour his show around the globe but also create another even bigger show full of illusions and mind bending tricking after all his idols were David Blaine and Dynamo and it wont be long before we add SJ Magician to that elite group of world famous magicians.
One piece of advice that Shyam told me was to “never limit yourself and dream big because that’s when great things happen. Believe in the impossible because if magic has taught us anything it’s that anything is possible.”
